Annual General Meeting 2014

We are holding our 2014 AGM at the Spot Conference Centre in Sacheveral Street, Derby DE1 2JR on Friday 7 February 2014.

The meeting will commence at 7.00 pm and a free buffet will be available from 8.00 pm.

Last year’s less formal meeting worked really well and partners are welcome after 8.00 pm to take part in the social event including a quiz and disco until late.

You will receive a complimentary drink voucher and a ticket for a free raffle draw (there will be a number of prizes up for grabs!) in the post.  So look out for the letter and remember to bring the drinks voucher and raffle ticket with you on the night.

Please note you must be present at the AGM in order to be eligible for a prize.

The meeting will also provide you with the opportunity to meet Branch Officers, Workplace Stewards and other UNISON Members and to put forward your views on the organisation of the Branch.

Speakers for the meeting are to be confirmed.  Full documentation including agenda will be available at the meeting.

Please try your best to attend. The AGM is the most important date in the Branch’s calendar.  The formal business aspect and the social aspect are both equally important. It’s YOUR union! Have YOUR say!

Advice re Equal Pay Review for Derby City Council (non schools)

The Council has written to all employees affected by Single Status giving you until 2nd January to sign up to the new terms and conditions.  You have been given two options, either to accept or reject.

As we are unable presently to achieve a collective agreement the employer is clearly trying to put pressure on employees (in the run up to the holiday season!) to sign up to the new terms and conditions.  We would urge UNISON members not to sign and should the employer need to impose new terms and conditions, you will be offered a new contract on those terms after your notice period runs out on your existing contract of employment.

UNISON has heard that managers have been telling people they will be dismissed if they don’t sign.  What managers don’t seem to be adding is that you will be offered a new contract at the same time!  To preserve your legal rights we would urge members not to sign and to go for option 2.  In the meantime updates will be put on our website (an FAQ etc) and we will continue negotiating on your behalf.

Update on Equal Pay Review for Derby City Council (non schools)

As you are aware UNISON has been consulting with you over the employer’s proposal to harmonise terms and conditions.

Consultation closed at the end of the day on Friday 22 November.

UNISON is aware that the employer has issued a statement with their intent to consult with regard to the imposition of the harmonisation of terms and conditions.

UNISON was not in a position to engage in further discussions with the employer until after our consultation had concluded. However, the employer took this opportunity to undermine the consultation process by issuing formal notification with intent to disengage and re-engage contracts.  The employer had sought to further undermine our consultation process by seeking voluntary acceptance of the new contracts without knowing what UNISON’s formal response was going to be.

UNISON is very disappointed that the employer chose to take this action knowing that UNISON had not finished consulting with our members at that time thereby undermining the whole negotiation.

UNISON will be holding further meetings for our members and these are:

Thursday 12 December                1.30 – 3.00 pm
Wednesday 18 December            2.00 – 3.30 pm
Thursday 19 December                1.00 – 2.30 pm

All of the meetings will be held in the Council Chamber of the Council House, Corporation Street, Derby. No need to book your place, just come along.
