UNISON Local Government Conference 2022 – Morning Session Day 2

The second and final day of Local Government Conference began with the Standing orders committee report

with the Local Service Champions awards. This award recognises the hard work local government workers do in their day to day role providing vital services to all.

First motion to discuss is 17 and 17.1 – School Support Staff – this motion was carried

Becky Everett your branch secretary spoke in support of this motion you can watch her speaking below. we also heard other accounts from other school support staff and the issues that they all face.

The next motion to be discussed is 22 Organising in Multi Academy Trusts – this motion was carried

Motion 16 – Term Time Working was discussed and there was some meaningful speeches made – this motion was carried

Motion 18 – Support the Mental Health of Staff in Colleges – we hear the struggles further educations workers are facing with staff and the pupils they are dealing with. this motion was carried

Motion 21 – School-Based Counselling in Every Primary and Secondary School in England is now discussed and we hear how important counselling service is needed in the school setting to support pupils. this motion was carried.

Motion 9 – Home Working and Reasonable Adjustments – this motion was carried

Motion 13 and 13.1 – Pay for Members Employed by Private Contractors Delivering Local Government Services – this motion was carried as ammended

Motion 2 and 2.1 – Mandatory Vaccinations – this motion was carried as amended

Motion 5 – Sexual Harassment Still Going Strong! – we hear accounts from those who have been affected by sexual harassment and how it needs to stop and needs to be dealt with and challenged to protect all those who face it.

This morning session comes too a close and this afternoons session starts after the lunch break.

UNISON Local Government Conference 2022 – Afternoon Session Day 1

Session two begins with a speech to conference by Baroness Wilcox of Newport

We now re convene the discussions on the motion 14 Violence at work – its not part of the job -We hear important and heartfelt messages from members who this motion was now carried

We now hear the next part of the Annual Report for Local Government Finance and Service Delivery this report was carried

We now hear a discussion on the Composite Motion A – Climate Change in Local Government, we heard stories and accounts showing how climate change is something that is needed for Local Government bodies to make changes to protect our future this motion was carried. Next motion 29 – End Misogyny and Violence Against Women is now being discussed and we hear personal accounts of issues and being faced by women, and the ask for members to ask to look into the measure in place at local government bodies to protect members and stop facing this in the future. This motion was carried.

During support for this motion there was reference made to the Sarah Everard case, learn more in the below video

Also the case into the MP who has been arrested on suspicion of Rape and sexual offences was talked about.

Motion 32 – Privatisation by the Back Door – this motion was carried

Motion 31 – A National Insourcing Strategy for Local Government – this motion was carried

Motion 33 – Beyond Covid – Building a Better Future- this motion was carried

Motion 28 – Covid-19 and the Continued Impact on Women Working in Local Government – this motion was carried

Motion 37 – Local Government Funding and Pay – this motion was carried

Motion 38 – Youth Service Cuts and Impact on Crime – this motion was carried

UNISON Local Government Conference 2022 – Morning Session Day 1

Day one of Conference began with a welcome by the current president of UNISON.

A moment of silence was all held to remember all those that have lost their lives over the past few years.

We now move to the first order of business Standing Orders Committe Report 1 and 2 was moved by the Standing orders committee. these reports were both carried.

We now receive a report from The Local Government Service Group Executive Annual Report ( you can read this below) this report was carried.

Now we discuss the motions for the morning and first we discuss Motion 3 and 3.1 as amended Covid and Long Covid – this was carried.

Motion 4 & 4.1 – New Ways of Working in Local Government is now being discussed and has been carried as amended

Motion 11 – Pay – Campaigning and Balloting was now discussed and this motion was carried

Motion 1 and 1.1 – Funding Cuts and Ethnicity Pay Gap in Local Government was debated and carried as amended

Motion 14 – Violence At Work – Its not part of the Job was discussed and this debate will continue later in conference and was paused due to timing and for a speech by the UNISON General Secretary.

Cristina McAnea UNISON General Secretary addresses conference and makes an inspirational speech and covered many issues affecting Local Government members, the current industrial action in Scotland. (click below for more info)

Cristina also finished to ask delegates to celebrate all the achievements by all of you and asked for all who can to come to the rally on Saturday 18 June 2022, click on the image below for more info.

Motion 14 – Violence At Work – Its not part of the Job was discussed and this debate was continued and this call the conference morning session was deferred to the next session.

This brings to a close the first conference session and will continue in the afternoon after lunch.
