UNISON Community Conference 2022 – Glasgow – Day 2 Seminar Session

Day 2 started with a workshop about Participation and key points were brought up around this, and heard personal accounts of situations faced by all members across the country. Which mirror the feelings of other members.

Now on tho the Community Seminar Session and first we hear a speech from Jon Richards, UNISON Assistant General Secretary , Bargaining, Negotiating and Equalities. He passed on solidarity to the Racism marches happening across the country and to solidarity to Ukrainians also, Cristina McAnea is unable to attend todays conference however pledges full support.

Jon went on to say how far the union has gone since the Covid19 Pandemic caused so many issues and how much workers have done, frontline staff, housing staff, community workers,

How we can work on and build on lessons learned from the past few years to improve conditions for workers. also how we can reclaim technology and digital technology and to keep a hold on and up-to date with the digital debate.

Jon Highlighted the UNISON College that is in the process of being set up to be Launched at this years National Delegate Conference, you can have your say on the college here..

Jon then thanked everyone for attending and welcomed questions from the floor. he too questions around accessing the There for you Fund this will be taken back to National office to respond. for those that would like to read more advice on accessing “There For You” please click below…

Questions also covered increasing awareness around being in a UNISON, access to the funding that has not been used for conferences due to the pandemic, data cleanses which improves representations of member locations. Vouchers for attending conference at home digitally. this closed Jons session and the next session begins at 2pm.

Our Year In Review and Annual General Meeting Announcement

Dear Member 

We would like to invite you to our Annual General Meeting – Friday 25 February 2022 Arrival 6pm AGM Start at 6.30pm

The AGM will finish at 7.30pm and be followed by a 2 course Indian Hot Buffet, then a live band and Disco. The Bar will be open till 1am 

On arrival each member will receive one FREE Drinks Voucher to be redeemed at the Bar.

UNISON LGBT+ Conference 2021 – Day 3 Final session

This mornings session begins with debating on motions to be put forward to National Delegate Conference to be held next year. NDC1 and NDC2 were agreed to be put forward to next years conference, (you can read more about these motions by clicking here)

Kath Owen UNISON Vice President addresses conference, Kath announced a National online activists meeting, discussed how cuts to specialist services is having a big negative impact to our members.

Following this speech we move onto discussing motions in the Campaigning and Promoting UNISON Section this covers

The first section was for the Hub of Hope this is a useful service for anyone to find support local to those seeking it. you can click on the image below to go to the website.

Then motions were discussed around;

  • Climate Change is a LGBT+ Issue
  • The UK Policing Bill: an infringement of LGBT+ Rights
  • The Future of Adult Social Care for LGBT+ People
  • Response to Racism and LGBT+ Phobia in Mental Health Services
  • Poor Provision of Healthcare for Trans People

This was the last debate on Motions for this conference any non discussed motions will be passed to the next LGBT+ committee meeting.

Next the Digital Organising Awards were presented by Andrea Egan UNISON Vice President and the winners were joint –

Following this a special presentation was made to Carol Mahwood for her endless work for the LGBT+ work in UNISON

Special mention to Carola Towle special thanks to all the work she has done for LGBT+ work and equalities, she will be retiring next year and this is her last Unison LGBT+ Conference.
