UNISON National Delegate Conference 2022 – Morning and Afternoon Session Day 2

This mornings session began with conference being given Standing Orders Committee Report Number 3 this report was received and some reference backs were made to be looked into by the Standing Orders Committee.

Now we move onto motions to be discussed, the first motion to be discussed was Motion 58 and 58.1 Campaigning for a National Care Service, this motion was carried as amended.

Following this motion the card vote result was announced from yesterdays Motion 11 – Not In Our Name this motion was carried following the result of For 655,809, Against 389,160 with a majority of 266,649.

Motion 93, 93.1 & 93.2 – Post Glasgow COP26 – Decarbonising UK Public Services – this motion was carried as amended

Motion 89 & 89.1 – Trans Equality – Louder and Prouder – this motion was carried as amended

Motion 1 & 1.1 – Building the Union Organising for our Future was now discussed and this motion was carried

Following this motion we then moved to the Speech by Christina McAnea, this was an inspirational, clear and powerful speech, and mapped out key objectives that have been achieved and a view of the future. You can read Christina’s full speech by clicking on the below article.

We then move to lunch and after lunch we discuss the following motions.

Composite B – Public Sector Pay, Finance, Taxation and the Cost of Living Crisis (36,37,1,37.2,2,37.3) was carried

Motion 67 &67.1 – Levelling Up – Was Carried

Motion 109 Taking Effective Industrial Action Under Current Legal Restrictions – was carried

Motion 12 – Combatting the Rise of Discrimination and Harassment Through Education – was carried

UNISON National Delegate Conference 2022 – Afternoon Session Day 1

This afternoons session began with the debate of the Motion 10 – Not in Our Name – this began with a very big debate surrounding this issue. This motion had speaker for and against the motion and a point of order was made twice to put the question, however Conference decided that the debate continue both times on this important motion. The final point of order was put for the question to be put this time it was agreed to put the question, this motion was Carried.

Following this lengthy debate we moved on to the next Motion 11 – Not in Our Name – this motion also created a lengthy debate and after this debate the motion was passed to a card vote with results to be announced in due course.

While we wait for the result of the card vote we move on to the next motion debate. Motion 9 and 9.1 – National Executive Council and Rule Book Commitment to Fair Representation, this motion was carried as amended with qualifications.

UNISON National Delegate Conference 2022 – Morning Session Day 1

This mornings session we were welcomed to conference and we paid respect to those we’ve sadly lost our the past few years and friends and families.

The first order of business was the Standing orders committee report No. 1 and standing orders report No. 2 and these were both carried. There were questions raised with regard to the report of the standing orders committee and where questions couldn’t be answered a meeting will be set up with the committee during committee.

We received the first part of Annual Report 2021/2022. and all sections were received and approved by conference. A minutes silence was held for the anniversary of the Grenfel Tower fire to remember those that were lost.

We now receive the Financial report this report was approved by conference and you can read this in more detail below.

The president gave a speech, a number of delegates left the conference floor when the president started his speech.

We now move to a discussion of motions the first motion is Motion 15 – UNISON at 30, this motion looks to celebrate the work that UNISON has done over the past 30 years ad continue to do so. we hear from speakers in support of this motion on how much unison has done for its members. This motion was carried.
