VICTORY – Council backs down on Car Parking proposal

In January this year, Derby City Council told us that they were looking at ways to make savings as there is a significant pressure on their budget. They told us that one of the cost-savings they were looking into, was  the possibility of removing or changing the current staff car parking arrangements. We made it clear that whilst we understand money is tight at the moment, we will defend every move that is made to find this savings by attacking the pay, terms and conditions and employment benefits of UNISON members in Derby City Council.

This March, the Council presented us with final proposals on the staff car parking scheme. As a democratic, member-led union we balloted you to ask whether you wanted UNISON to accept or reject the offer on your behalf. By an overwhelming majority, the outcome of this ballot was that staff wanted to reject the proposals.

As the leading staffs  union with thousands of members you have shown a clear strong voice that UNISON members will stand together to protect your hard fought for pay, terms and conditions.

Following a meeting today the council has given assurances to UNISON members that the employer will not be pursuing any proposals to remove the current Staff Car Parking arrangements.

By consultation and you working with us ,you have achieved a powerful and positive outcome. We will endeavour to continue to consult with you over any other proposed attacks on your/ our pay, terms and conditions.

In solidarity
