Day 4 – National Delegate Conference

Dave Prentis Leave Prentis General Secretary for UNISON gave an opening address following the announcement that the result of European Union referendum was for the UK to Leave the EU.  You can read his statement here

tmp_11043-20160624_154315754185010This mornings motions covered Strengthening our union: supporting and developing our stewards, supporting our activists who have to deal with stressful situations, European Union trade agreements.

Now onto this afternoons session discussions around Women and the State Pension, Immigration, Detention and Deportation, and Public Service Workers under Pressure.

Wendy Nichols President of UNISON gave the closing speech to officially close the and announced that Eric Roberts will take over as President for 2016/17. Eric passed on a vote of thanks to Wendy and votes of thanks are being given by other members of the Union.

Day 3 – National Delegate Conference – Afternoon Session

Conversation now continued around Public Services Campaigning – Stop Outsourcing and protect members.

Now debates on the amendments to Rules and Schedules. Rules amendment to ask for electronic Elections to be included in postal votes, Private Contractors National Forum, functions and authority (particularly around disabled members), Branch Officers Elections,     Frequency of National Delegate Conferences, service group conferences, branch comittees,  and Regional Structures.

Now to discuss motions again firstly New Local Government Pension Scheme investment regulations and assert pooling, defending our human rights and equality protectors. Branch Self organised groups, bullying and young members.

Day 3 – National Delegate Conference – Morning session

Rosa Pavanelli Opening the conference today is Guest International Speaker Rosa Pavanelli, General Secretary, Public Services International.

Rosa covered issues around international trade, European position, work her organisation is carrying out,  and issues with unions in areas of the world where it is not encouraged by the employer to have a union.

Now discussions on opposing DFID’s privatisation agenda, Columbia and the issues they face around setting up trade unions (more information here)

Now for a debate on the motion for ‘don’t silence the occupation of Palestine’ and Women, the refugee crisis and trafficking. These debates have been very passionate and show true solidarity to improve these issues for the future.

£2316 raised by delegates at the  conference yesterday and the National Executive Comittee will match fund this amount making a £4634 donation to the Jo Cox Fund.

Final discussions this morning is around the motion Public Serving campaigning – Stop Outsourcing and protect members.
