UNISON LGBT Conference 2017 – Update Three

The after lunch session resumes with discussions continuing around the Campaigning section of the annual report. motions currently being discussed are Support for the current Labour leadership, Trans and gender non-conforming young people in schools, colleges and universities, this subject had a large debate with personal accounts and experiences people face in the uk. following on from this discussion the next motion to be discussed is the Reform of the Gender Recognition Act. These motions were passed unanimously.

Protecting trans prisoners is now being discussed, and emotional accounts of why their protection is important are being given. this motion was carried

Stonewall – repairing the damage has caused much debate and controvesey over this issue for and against this motion. the amendment to the motion was voted against and we now hear personal accounts on working with stonewall.  Very healthy debate and and a card vote was put forward to make the decision  due to the close numbers for and against the motion. After a card vote to make the decision  102 – 132 the motion has been lost.

At the end of the conference there will be a collection for the Northern Ireland marriage equality fund

We now hear a speech from the guest speaker Christina McAnea UNISON Assistant General Secretary.

 

 

This concludes the session of the main conference and now the workshops begin and an update of these will be put forward run the final update tomorrow.
