Before Christmas we visited all Derby Homes sites to enable us to better engage with the workforce, as a result of this we now have 15 new members.

A major theme that came out of these visits was a need for training around gaining a better understanding of mental health issues, to enable you to better support service users.

UNISON has a 1 day training course called ‘Mental Health Awareness and Well-being’ which is running on 22 February 2017 in Nottingham and is open to all members. Yesterday Derby City Council were served notice of further Industrial Action for school support staff beginning next Monday.

Strike action will take place every day next week from Monday 16 January 2017, between the hours of 7am and 1pm and will apply to the hours you work between these times.

Further information about campaigning activity will follow later this week.

If you feel your school would benefit from a workplace meeting please contact the office to arrange for a visit.

Please be assured that the branch continues to offer support at 100% of net loss in pay.

Our School Support Staff have been in the Mackworth Ward today raising awareness of their campaign. Over 1200 leaflets were distributed to properties across the ward and residents spoken to with Hundreds of signatures supporting the campaign collected in 90 minutes.
