UNISON National Delegate Conference 2023 – Morning Session – Day 2

We start with a welcome back from President Andrea Egan and she announced that £1600 has been raised from the NDC quiz social last night which will go to the There for You Charity,

A minutes silence was then observed for the six year’s anniversary of the Grenfell Tower Tragedy 

We start with the moving of Standing Orders Committee Report 3 – there were reference back requests made and these will be returned at a further update surrounding item 3 regarding emergency motion Transpennine Express: the operator of Last Resort should be the only operator and Columbia in crisis and also item 4. 

We now move onto the discussion of motions and we start with Composite A – Social Care Crisis – The Urgent Need for Reform and Investment – this Motion was carried

Motion 28 – A Vision for a National Care Service – this motion was carried as amended 28.1 

Motion 27 – Radical Change in Social Care in Wales Can Influence the Whole of the UK – this motion was carried as amended 27.1

We then receive a speech from Christina McAnea UNISON General Secretary, Christina went through issues Local Government Pay Ballot, Strike issues, action wins across the country and the real impact.

Christina drew attention to the following issues during her speech, UNISON National care service roadmap that has just been launched

The Year Of the Black Worker

Disability Employment Charter

NJC Pay Campaign

Christina receives a standing ovation following her speech.
